Energy Audit
What is an energy audit?
An energy audit is an opportunity to better understand how your house operates to keep you safe and comfortable. An energy audit is a test of your house's heating and cooling systems, the relative air leakiness, possible air quality concerns (including carbon monoxide and moisture), and insulation value, among other things. When you understand how well or poorly your house functions, you can make better decisions about how to make changes that will improve the safety and comfort of your house, as well as saving money on your utility bills.
Why get an energy audit?
Do you experience any of the following in your house? Most of us do.
- High gas, electric, and water bills
- Drafty rooms
- Significant temperature differences from room to room
- Heating & cooling systems constantly operate and don't reach the desired temperature
- Condensation on windows
- Inability to maintain consistent house temperatures
- Dry indoor air (cooling season)
- Cold floors (heating season)
- Excessive dust
- Peeling paint
- Tax credits (both builders and home owners)
A home energy audit is the first step in determining the cause or causes of these issues and then offers methods to remediate the problem.
